First Steps in Any Emergency
Before you pick up the phone:
- A burst pipe or water pouring out: close the main valve at your water meter, then call (07) 3523 6417.
- A smell of gas: turn the appliance off if it's safe to, open the doors and windows, and don't switch any electrics on or off. If the smell stays, shut the gas off at the meter or cylinder and call (07) 3523 6417. If you can still smell it after that, call 000.
- A dripping tap or a toilet that keeps running: it can usually wait for a booked visit. Call (07) 3523 6417 and choose a time.
We're available 24/7, 7 days a week, with no extra charge for nights, weekends or public holidays.

Gas Smells, Burst Pipes and Overflowing Toilets
A gas smell comes first, then a burst pipe or a serious supply leak, water or gas gone from every tap, and a toilet that has failed. None of those can hold off until a scheduled visit:
A gas odour
switch the appliance off, get air through the house, and ring us. The full sequence is on our gas leak repairs page.
A burst pipe or a major supply leak
shut the water down and call. Burst pipe repairs covers the fix itself.
A failed supply
no flow at any tap, or no gas at the cooker, is urgent even without a drip on the floor.
A toilet out of action
the one fixture no household can manage without. The toilet repairs page covers the rest.
A leak at the meter box
water pooled in the box, or spongy ground beside a meter that is not moving, means the fault sits on Urban Utilities' side, so report it to the utility.
Renting changes the rulebook. Queensland tenancy law names the emergency repairs, and anything left off that list is a routine job.

Stop the Water and Gas Before You Call
Start at the fault itself: the isolation valve on the fixture, or the meter's stop tap, then the gas at the meter or bottle. An isolation valve under a sink or behind a cistern closes the water to that one fixture, and the rest of the house keeps running.
The stop tap beside the water meter turns clockwise to shut. You will find it in a small box set flush with the ground, in the strip between the road and your boundary. Before you close it, check that the water heater and any other appliance will not be harmed by losing their supply.
For gas, the order is the same. Switch the offending appliance off and get air moving, and flip no electrical switch either way. If the odour stays, close the gas where the meter or bottle controls it, if that is safe to get to.
An odour that survives all of that means 000, straight away, and leave the area. Your supplier's emergency line is printed on your gas bill, in the top corner.

Emergency Repairs That Need a Licensed Plumber
Only a licensed gasfitter may do gas work, and only a licensee may mend a burst pipe or clear a blocked sanitary drain. Gas work covers installing and removing gas systems, altering and repairing them, plus servicing, testing and certification.
Both of those emergency repairs are minor work in Queensland: a licensee must do them, and neither needs a permit or a Form 4. A Form 4 is the notice a licensed plumber lodges with the QBCC after notifiable work, and minor work skips it. No approval delays the repair.
Your job is the valves; ours is the fix. A flexible hose behind an older vanity on Gympie Road is often past its rated life, and a split can soak a cabinet floor for hours before it shows. Hidden wet patches get pinned down on our leak detection page.

Night, Weekend and Public Holiday Calls
Isolate first, then decide. A fault you have contained can hold until a scheduled visit; a gas smell, sewage rising or water you cannot shut off cannot, whatever the day.
A tap that drips or a slow basin is a booking, not a midnight call. In a rental, the tenancy list decides which is which, and a phone call to the contact your agreement names is a valid report.
Whenever you ring, nights and weekends carry no extra charge. Calls here pick up when storm rain tests the western edge, and the postwar brick houses back from Strathpine Road keep the phone busy the rest of the year.

Urgent Plumbing Questions From Bald Hills
Call (07) 3523 6417Which plumbing problems count as emergencies in Bald Hills?
A gas leak, a burst pipe, water or gas gone from every tap, a toilet out of action and flooding all count. In a rental, the Queensland tenancy list decides: a repair it names is an emergency, and anything left off is routine.
Where is the gas shut-off point in an emergency?
Shut it at the gas meter, or at the LPG bottle if that is your supply, after switching the appliance off and opening doors and windows, touching no electrical switch. If the odour stays once the supply is shut, call 000, and your supplier's emergency line is printed on your gas bill.
Can I repair a burst pipe myself?
No, a burst pipe is not a DIY job. Queensland classes the repair as minor work, so a licensee has to do it. Shut the stop tap beside the water meter or the isolation valve at the fixture, get things out of the wet, and ring us.
I rent in Bald Hills, who do I call about an urgent plumbing fault?
Ring the emergency contact your tenancy agreement lists, straight away. A phone call counts as a valid report. The tenancy list sets which repairs are emergencies, so a burst pipe or gas leak is urgent even in a rental.
Who is allowed to fix a gas leak?
Only a licensed gasfitter may do gas work, which covers repairs, servicing, testing and certification. Close the gas at the meter or bottle first, then ring. Nobody else may legally touch the system.
